Research interests

My research for my senior honours project is investigating the relationship between land use types and soil decomposition. My experiment focuses on the burial of three organic materials — a green tea bag, a rooibos tea bag, and a strip of pure cotton — across 5 different landscapes in Fife. I will be testing at an organic farm, a traditional farm, and a regenerative farm, as well as a rewilding site and a botanic garden! I am trying to determine if there is a better way to manipulate and use the land, aside from present techniques, to allow for higher decomposition rates and healthier soil, overall. I am also interested in creating lasting connections with the landowners in the area and am focusing on using co-design techniques in my experimental design.
